Zack the carrot

Zack the Carrot is a 2D platformer with a retro style, inspired by the classics of the genre. This project pays tribute to the platformers I love, offering a fun and colorful game.

The goal is to recover fertilizers stolen by our evil enemies: an army of invading strawberries. With Zack, players jump, dodge obstacles, and explore every corner of the levels to find all the fertilizers and complete the adventure.

Zack the Carrot is a fully playable game from start to finish, available for free on Google Play.

Guski and The Ancient Isles

Guski and the Ancient Isles is a demo of a more ambitious project covering the first world, with its first 4 complete and playable levels. It is a 3D platformer with metroidvania elements, developed as my Final Master’s Project at the UOC.

In the game, players control Guski as they explore a mysterious island full of collectibles and secrets, offering non-linear progression and multiple paths to discover. My main idea with this project is to combine elements from different platformer subgenres.

Guski and The Ancient Isles is currently available as a demo with the first sections of the game.

3D small projects

As part of my Master’s, I developed several 3D Unity games exploring different mechanics and styles. Tanks is a multiplayer tank game with balanced, fun gameplay and full online functionality. Startic Defense is a sci-fi shooter where players navigate an abandoned base, fighting drones, switching weapons, and solving puzzles.

My Dad is a Zombie is a 3D platformer with sandbox elements, set in a zombie-infected city with missions like collecting items or defeating zombies.

All these projects, along with others, are available on itch.io, showcasing creative gameplay experiments.

Alongside my 3D work, I developed various 2D Unity games exploring gameplay variety and creative mechanics. Insultos en el Huerto is a humorous, insult-based game inspired by Monkey Island, featuring clever verbal duels.

Sokobon is a puzzle game based on Sokoban, challenging players to push boxes strategically, with a level editor for creating and sharing custom challenges.

Instructor at Algorithmics Academy, teaching Python and Unity (2D and 3D) to young adults aspiring to become professional programmers. I guide students through the complete process of designing and developing fully functional video games throughout the course.

Faculty Coordinator at Scratch Barcelona Academy, leading and mentoring teachers while also teaching students to create video games in Scratch and Roblox Studio.

Content creator of video game development tutorials for the Scratch School platform, guiding students through the design, programming, and implementation of interactive games.

About me

Living in Barcelona, Spain, I’m Daniel Soria, a dedicated video game designer and programmer with a lifelong passion for role-playing games, retro platformers, and graphic adventures. Growing up, I found inspiration in my favorite consoles, the PS2 and SNES, and was captivated by the immersive storytelling of Final Fantasy, which remains my all-time favorite series.

As a designer, I strive to craft games that pull players into rich, compelling worlds and keep them engaged with unique, captivating mechanics. My goal is to spark curiosity, create memorable experiences, and let players feel part of something larger. Before transitioning into game development, I was a teacher, an experience that taught me the value of creativity and the joy of discovery—qualities I now carry into my designs.

Outside development, I enjoy reading and writing, often using these hobbies to inspire new ideas for my projects. Whether designing, programming, or brainstorming, I’m driven by the same passion that made me fall in love with games in the first place.
